Situated in sunny South Florida, Holy Cross Hospital serves a broad range of patients. Our patient volume has a distinct seasonal ebb and flow, with patients from the northeast corridor of the United States and Canada affectionately referred to as “snowbirds.”

What is the size of the EP lab facility, and what is the mix of staff credentials?

Covenant HealthCare has two dedicated electrophysiology (EP) labs. One lab is completely upgraded to do Carto 3D mapping (Biosense Webster, Inc., a Johnson & Johnson company, Diamond Bar, CA) and laser lead extractions, and the other lab is Carto equipped.



Spotlight Interview: St. Luke’s Regional Medical Center

What is the size of your EP lab facility and number of staff members?

The electrophysiology lab at St. Luke’s is a decentralized lab that is approximately 800 square feet in size. The lab’s hemodynamic monitoring system is located within the lab. There is a core team of four highly trained staff members. Additionally, there are 13 cross trained rotating staff members from the cardiac cath lab that assist with monitoring and circulating.

What is the size of your EP lab and number of staff members?

The electrophysiology lab at Cheyenne Regional Medical Center (CRMC) is 600 square feet in size and has a separate control room. There are six staff members that primarily work in the EP lab.



Spotlight Interview: Akron General Medical Center

What is the size of your EP facility and number of staff? What is the mix of credentials at your lab?

Akron General Medical Center has three dedicated EP labs. The staff consists of six registered nurses (RNs), one radiologic technologist (RT) and one cardiovascular technologist. The RNs have 75 years of combined experience, with 23 of those years dedicated in EP.



Spotlight Interview: The Cleveland Clinic

What is the size of the EP lab facility and number of staff members? What is the mix of credentials in the lab?

The Cleveland Clinic is composed of 7 EP labs and 1 cardioversion suite. A hybrid operating room is available within the Heart and Vascular Institute for complex procedures. In addition, we have 20 staff physicians, 10 EP fellows, 40 registered nurses (RNs), 1 clinical engineer/RN, 2 office specialists, 1 supply coordinator, and 1 patient care assistant. All technical support is provided by RNs.



Spotlight Interview: Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center

What is the size of your EP lab facility and number of staff members? What is the mix of credentials at your lab?

Advocate Illinois Masonic Medical Center currently has one dedicated, leading-edge EP lab. Funds have been approved for the renovation of a current cath lab to accommodate both cath and EP procedures. We also staff an outpatient device clinic three days a week. We have seven dedicated nurses, ranging from full time to registry, and one full-time radiologic technologist. All staff members are ACLS certified.

When was the EP lab started at your institution?

Our EP lab, the Southeast Hospital Arrhythmia and Cardiac Electrophysiology Center, was given a new name and direction in August 2008 with the arrival of electrophysiologist Gabe Soto, MD, PhD, FACC. Prior to his arrival, the electrophysiology service at our institution consisted of only device implantations.
